The Blue Umbrella

My son loves Pixar. He loves to watch Monster’s University, one of the reasons why is because of the short film that follows the movie. After all the credits roll and everything fades to black and few seconds go by, it fades up to a crafty, brilliant short film Ethan affectionately calls “BWUE UMBWELLA!”

I’m not sure what he loves about it, but he loves it nonetheless. If you haven’t seen it, I HIGHLY recommend it. It’s short, well illustrated, with a great story as is the norm with nearly everything Pixar does. A brief summary: A blue umbrella loves a nice rain storm, and as it’s going through town being carried by it’s owner, it meets a red umbrella. Through the chaos the blue and red umbrella get separated and everything in the city comes alive to try and help the blue umbrella meet the red umbrella again.

Through a series of uncontrollable events the blue umbrella is found laid to waste on the side of the road. Waiting… hoping… desperate for someone to come and rescue him.

I won’t give away the ending, but there is redemption int he story. What I love about it is that it really is a microcosm of what happens in our lives. We are all chasing something. A dream, a goal, a vision for our lives. Whatever it may be. We all have something that drives us. However there are a number of situations we feel happen that we have to overcome in order to achieve it.

But have you ever considered all the things happening to help ASSIST you in achieving that goal?

Have you ever through about the millions of things that had to happen in order for you to end up where you are right now? All the conversations, meetings, doctor’s visits, homework assignments, late nights, early mornings, midnight medicine runs your parents made. All that had to happen to get you right where you are right now reading this blog. It may feel like a lot of things are happening to keep you from achieving certain goals, but I believe there is A LOT more happening in your FAVOR to help you accomplish everything God set in motion for you life long before you took your first breath.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or discouraged at your current season, don’t just sit there waiting for something to happen that’s out of your control. I want to encourage you to shift your perspective to see all that IS happening to PUSH you towards your calling and purpose.

Most of the time if our lives seem upside down, one of the biggest things we need to do is turn our eyes, not expect our situations to themselves around for us.

There is an old song I sing to my son every night and I’ll leave you with this simple encouragement. When life seem’s crazy…

“Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in his wonderful face.
And the things of earth
will grow strangely dim
in the light of his glory and grace.”

Be blessed today. Today is one step closer to you becoming everything God has called you to be. Don’t miss the opportunity.
